Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM23150 - Contribute to the design of heating systems

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Prepare design specifications

  1. Obtain and implement work health and safety (WHS) and environmental requirements for the work area
  2. Consult appropriate personnel to ensure that work is coordinated effectively with others
  3. Obtain equipment and resources needed for the task in accordance with organisational procedures and check for correct operation and safety
  4. Select a heating system design to meet the client requirements
  5. Plan design development work to meet scheduled timelines
  6. Check system design draft for compliance with the design brief, regulatory requirements and environmental standards
  7. Calculate heating loads and matching heating capacity
  8. Select appropriate heating equipment to satisfy design specifications
  9. Provide solutions to unplanned situations consistent with organisational procedures
  10. Document method of capacity rating and sizing for each discrete component in the system to industry standards using organisational procedures

Analyse system and adjust system performance

  1. Evaluate system performance under variable conditions
  2. Determine fulfilment of required heating capacity under full and partial load conditions
  3. Verify final design using organisational procedures for compliance and regulatory requirements
  4. Document final system design for client approval according to industry standards and organisational procedures
